About Mask, The (japan)
Atlus released The Mask for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995. It arrived during a period when many licensed games were vying for attention on the platform, and this one was based directly on the Jim Carrey film.
You control Stanley Ipkiss, an ordinary bank clerk who discovers a magical mask that grants him cartoonish powers. Your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend from the crime lord who also wants the mask. You move through levels screen by screen, using a mix of melee attacks with your oversized mallet and projectile attacks like throwing playing cards. The game is structured around exploring urban environments and fighting through waves of gangsters; it is known for its challenging difficulty and fast pacing. Navigating the chaotic levels with these exaggerated abilities makes the experience feel unpredictable and frantic.
