Play Mask, The (beta) Online

I first came across Mask, The (Beta) on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1995. It was developed by Black Pearl Software, a name you'd see on a few other titles from that era. This was during a time when the SNES was full of games based on movies, and this one was another attempt to capture that energy in a cartridge.

You control Stanley Ipkiss, the main character from the film, after he finds the magical mask. The main goal is to navigate through various side-scrolling levels, fighting off thugs and solving environmental puzzles. A couple of its signature mechanics include transforming with the mask to gain temporary superpowers, like a tornado spin attack, and collecting floating cartoon icons to replenish health or ammunition for your projectile weapons. The pacing is generally fast, though some sections can be surprisingly difficult with precise platforming required. Playing it feels like a chaotic cartoon brought to life, where you are constantly managing your power-ups to survive.
