Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems came out for the Super Nintendo in 1996, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of that late SNES era where licensed games were trying to capture the feel of arcade brawlers and action platformers, and this one was squarely in that mix.

You control one of five Marvel heroes, like Captain America or Spider-Man, fighting through side-scrolling stages to stop Thanos from gathering the Infinity Gems. The gameplay is built on screen-by-screen exploration; you clear all the enemies in one area before you can move to the next. Each character has a basic attack and a special move that uses a meter, and you can switch between heroes at certain points to use their specific abilities. The levels are linear but packed with enemies, and the difficulty can be punishing if you aren't careful with your health and special attacks. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes repetitive brawler where your main satisfaction comes from landing a character's signature super move on a tough boss.
