Play Mario In Midgard Online

Mario in Midgard was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, though I don't recall the developer offhand. It came out during that period when the SNES library was full of experimental titles, games that tried to blend familiar characters with entirely new genres.

You control Mario, but instead of running and jumping through platforming stages, you guide him through a top-down world. The main goal is to explore the land of Midgard, screen by screen, to find a series of lost artifacts. You use a sword for close combat against various monsters and a bow for hitting distant enemies or solving simple puzzles. The game is structured around delving into dungeons, where you fight bosses and collect the items you need.
