Mahoujin Guru Guru on SNES is one of those weird, charming RPGs that never got enough love outside Japan. You play as Nike, a clueless hero-in-training, and Kukuri, a hyperactive magic girl who literally spins in circles to cast spells—which is as ridiculous as it sounds, but somehow it works.
The first thing you’ll notice is how bright and goofy everything is. The towns are packed with NPCs who say absurd things, and the dungeons feel like they were designed by someone who just really liked drawing squiggly lines. Combat’s turn-based but with a twist: Kukuri’s magic system involves tracing patterns on a grid, and if you mess up, you might accidentally summon a tiny fish instead of a fireball.
It’s not super deep, but the humor carries it. There’s a dungeon where you fight sentient sushi, and at one point, a villain just straight-up steals your save file. If you’re into old-school RPGs but wish they were less serious, this one’s a hidden gem. Just don’t expect epic storytelling—it’s more about laughing at the sheer nonsense.
