Mahjong Taikai II on SNES is one of those games that just feels right if you're into tile-matching. The moment you boot it up, you're hit with this super chill Japanese aesthetic—bamboo tiles, cherry blossoms in the background, and this zen soundtrack that makes you forget you're even holding a controller.
At first glance, it looks like standard mahjong, but there’s a sneaky layer of strategy. Some tiles are buried under others, so you’ve gotta plan ahead instead of just grabbing whatever’s available. I remember getting stuck for ages on one board because I kept freeing the wrong pieces early. The game doesn’t hold your hand, but that’s part of the charm.
There are a few different modes to mix things up, though I always end up coming back to the classic solo play. It’s the perfect game to zone out with after a long day, even if the AI occasionally pulls off some suspiciously lucky draws. If you’ve got an SNES and even a passing interest in mahjong, this one’s a no-brainer.
