Mahjong Hanjouki is one of those late-era SNES games that flew under the radar—probably because by '95, everyone was hyped for 3D stuff. But if you're into traditional mahjong, this one's got a weirdly cozy vibe. The tiles have that satisfying clack when you place them, and the AI opponents actually put up a decent fight without feeling cheap.

First thing you'll notice is the old-school Japanese aesthetic—wooden tables, those little score markers sliding around, and this oddly soothing background music that makes you feel like you're in some tiny Tokyo parlor at 2 AM. The rules follow classic riichi mahjong, so if you're used to the solitaire-style versions, it might take a minute to adjust. I kept forgetting to call "ron" at first and lost a stupid amount of points for it.

Nichibutsu didn't reinvent the wheel here, but it's solid. Perfect for when you want that tactile mahjong feel without digging out an actual tile set. Just don't expect flashy cutscenes or power-ups—it's pure, unfiltered tile-matching chaos.
