Mahjong Gokuu Tenjiku is one of those weirdly specific SNES gems—a full-on mahjong sim from 1994 that somehow feels both dated and weirdly charming. You’re thrown right into a traditional Japanese setting with those classic tile designs, and the controls take a second to get used to if you’re not already deep into mahjong. The AI isn’t pulling punches either—I lost my first few rounds embarrassingly fast.
What’s cool is how it leans into the old-school aesthetic, from the chunky pixel art to the tinny, repetitive background music that’ll either hypnotize you or drive you nuts. There’s no hand-holding here, just straight-up tile matching against increasingly sneaky CPU opponents. If you’re into retro mahjong or just love digging up obscure SNES oddities, this one’s a solid time capsule.
