Okay, so Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse is one of those classic SNES platformers that somehow makes you forget how weird the premise is. Mickey’s just vibing until Pete (of course it’s Pete) kidnaps Pluto, and suddenly you’re jumping through forests, caves, and floating castles in these ridiculous magical costumes.
First thing you’ll notice—those costumes actually change how you play. The wizard robe lets you shoot magic bubbles (weirdly satisfying), the firefighter getup has this stretchy hose for swinging, and the mountain climber gear? Yeah, you can just stick to walls like Spider-Mouse. Took me way too long to realize you can switch them mid-level, which makes some of the later puzzles way less frustrating.
It’s got that classic Disney charm—bright colors, bouncy music, and Pete’s over-the-top evil laugh—but don’t let that fool you. Some of those platforming sections get sneaky tough, especially when the screen starts auto-scrolling. Still, it’s the kind of game where even dying feels silly because Mickey just kinda flops over like a deflated balloon.
If you’ve got a soft spot for 90s Disney or just want a platformer that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this one’s a solid pick.
