About Magic Knight Rayearth (japan)
Magic Knight Rayearth came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995, developed by SEGA. It was part of that wave of mid-90s JRPGs based on popular anime, and like many of its peers from that era, it never saw an official release outside of Japan.
You control the three main heroines, Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, switching between them as you explore the world of Cephiro. Your goal is to rescue the Pillar and defeat the high priest Zagato. The gameplay involves screen by screen exploration across an overworld and in dungeons, with turn based combat initiated through random encounters. You use swords and magic in battle, and a key mechanic is finding and combining the three legendary Rune Gods to form a single, powerful mecha. The pacing is deliberate, with some grinding required to handle the later dungeons. Playing it feels like working through a condensed, interactive version of the anime's first major story arc.
