Madden NFL 98 on SNES is one of those games that just feels right if you grew up with a Super Nintendo. The menus are straight out of the '90s—big, blocky, and full of that classic EA Sports presentation. You pick your team, tweak your playbook (because of course you’re going deep on 3rd down), and then it’s all about those chunky pixelated players smashing into each other.
The gameplay’s slower than modern Maddens, but there’s something satisfying about the way the runners plow through tackles or how a perfectly timed button press sends the ball spiraling into your receiver’s hands. And yeah, the AI’s got some quirks—cornerbacks sometimes forget they’re supposed to cover people—but that just makes breaking off a 60-yard TD even sweeter.
If you’ve got a buddy around, the two-player mode turns into pure chaos, especially when someone picks the Cowboys and just spams Emmitt Smith up the middle every play. It’s dated, sure, but it’s still stupid fun with the right crowd. Just don’t expect franchise mode or anything fancy—this is pure, old-school football.
