Lothar Matthäus Super Soccer is one of those SNES sports games that somehow nails the chaotic energy of actual soccer while keeping the controls simple enough that you won't throw your controller. You pick from a handful of national teams (Germany's predictably overpowered), and matches play out in this weirdly satisfying arcade style—players slide around like they're on ice at first, but after a few minutes, you start pulling off these ridiculous long-range shots that feel amazing when they connect.
The ref never calls fouls, so you can just bulldoze through opponents, and the goalkeepers have these hilarious animations where they flop like fish. It's not exactly FIFA, but there's something about the chunky pixelated crowds and the way the ball pings off the crossbar that makes it weirdly addictive. Just don't expect tactical depth—this is pure, dumb fun with a side of '90s jank.
Still holds up if you're in the mood for something fast and messy.
