Liberty or Death on SNES is one of those deep-cut strategy games that makes you feel like a Revolutionary War general—if that general had to constantly balance troop morale, supplies, and the occasional British ambush. You start off picking a side (obviously I went American, but playing as the British is weirdly fun too) and suddenly you're micromanaging everything from recruiting militias to convincing France to actually help you.
The battles are turn-based, but the real tension comes from the overworld map—watching enemy movements while scrambling to feed your army before winter hits. The first time I lost a key battle because my troops were starving, I actually yelled at the screen. It's got that old-school Koei depth where you'll spend half your time staring at menus, but when everything clicks, it feels like you're rewriting history.
Fair warning: the learning curve is steep, and the manual is basically required reading. But if you stick with it, there's nothing quite like pulling off a guerilla campaign with ragtag colonial troops against a professional army. Just don't expect George Washington to thank you.
