Lawnmower Man on SNES is one of those weird early '90s movie tie-ins that throws everything at the wall to see what sticks. You start off with this bizarre top-down maze section where you're dodging scientists (why?), then suddenly it shifts into a side-scrolling platformer with terrible hit detection. The graphics are this surreal mix of digitized faces and blocky sprites that somehow make less sense than the movie's plot.
There's a first-person VR segment too, which was probably mind-blowing in 1993 but now just looks like a screensaver gone wrong. Honestly, half the fun is seeing how many genres they crammed into one cartridge—it's like the developers couldn't decide what kind of game they wanted to make. I kept waiting for a racing level where you mow someone's yard.
It's not good, but there's something weirdly charming about how ambitious and messy it is. The soundtrack's actually pretty decent if you can ignore the screeching sound effects.
