About Lawnmower Man, The (beta)
I remember picking up Lawnmower Man for the Super Nintendo back in 1993. It was developed by Sales Curve Interactive, and it was one of those games that tried to capture the vibe of a sci-fi movie on the 16-bit hardware. It fit right in with the era's trend of ambitious, sometimes messy, movie tie-ins.
You control Jobe, a man whose intelligence is artificially enhanced, and your goal is to stop a rival corporation from misusing the same virtual reality technology. The gameplay shifts between different styles; you run through side-scrolling platform levels, navigate mazes from a top-down perspective, and pilot a vehicle in shooter segments. You collect power-ups to enhance your abilities and fight various enemies and bosses. The pacing is uneven, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially during the perspective changes. Playing it feels like navigating a disjointed digital world that never quite settles into a comfortable rhythm.
