About Lagoon (europe)
Lagoon came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, published by ZOOM Inc. It was part of that early wave of SNES action RPGs, arriving before many of the more famous titles in the genre had established their formulas. You play as the hero Nasir, tasked with cleansing the polluted waters of the land.
You guide Nasir from a top-down perspective, moving screen by screen through fields, caves, and castles. Your primary weapon is a short-range sword, which requires you to get very close to enemies, a mechanic that defines the combat. The main goal is to collect the four elemental crystals to restore the water source. This involves navigating multi-level dungeons, fighting bosses, and managing your health and magic. The pacing can feel deliberate, and the difficulty comes from the close-quarters combat and sometimes cramped environments. It feels like a methodical, exploratory journey where every new screen is a small challenge.
