Okay, so Gulliver Boy is one of those weird, mid-90s SNES games based on an anime nobody outside Japan remembers. You play as this kid with a magic cape (because of course) who jumps between floating islands, slashing monsters with a sword that feels just a tiny bit too slow at first. The sprites are colorful, and some of the backgrounds actually hold up—there’s this one level with a giant clockwork tower that looks surprisingly cool.

It’s not exactly a hidden gem, but if you’re into obscure action-platformers with that distinct "this-was-definitely-a-TV-show" vibe, it’s got some charm. Just don’t expect anything groundbreaking—the combat’s basic, and the platforming can be janky in spots. The fan translation helps, though half the dialogue still feels like someone ran it through three layers of Google Translate.

Honestly? I kept playing just to see how bizarre some of the enemy designs got. There’s a boss that’s basically a sentient pile of sushi.
