King of Rally is one of those weird little SNES racing games that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this janky charm to it. The tracks are narrow, the physics feel like your car’s sliding on butter half the time, and the AI drivers love to ram you into walls. But somehow, that’s part of the fun.
You start with a choice of three cars (spoiler: the red one handles the best), and the first track throws you right into a twisty mountain road with way too many sharp turns. The graphics are decent for 1992, with some nice parallax scrolling in the background, but the real challenge is just staying on the road. Oh, and the music? Pure early ‘90s synth, in the best way possible.
It’s not a masterpiece, but if you’re into obscure racing games, this one’s a fun time-waster. Just don’t expect Gran Turismo.
