About King Arthur's World (beta)
I first played King Arthur's World on the Super Nintendo back in 1993. It was developed by Argonaut Games, the same studio that worked on Star Fox. The game stood out on the SNES for its unique approach, blending puzzle solving with light strategy elements during a time when platformers and RPGs dominated the system.
You control a small group of knights and peasants, directing them to dig through dirt, build bridges, and fight off creatures so King Arthur can safely cross the screen. The main goal is simply to get Arthur from the start of a level to the exit. Key mechanics include the screen by screen exploration, where each new area presents a fresh environmental puzzle, and the specific unit commands, like ordering a knight to defend a position or a peasant to tunnel. The pacing is deliberate, more about careful planning than quick reflexes, and some puzzles can be quite difficult to figure out. It feels like a slow, thoughtful chess match played out in the dirt.
