Kikou Keisatsu Metal Jack is a Japan-only beat-em-up from 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by KID and published by Takara. It is based on the anime of the same name, and while an American release was planned under the title Metal Jack: Armored Police, that version was eventually cancelled. The game also saw a separate release for the Game Boy, but the SNES version is the one I spent time with.

You control a pilot in a large mech suit, moving screen by screen through urban and industrial environments. Your main objective is to fight through waves of enemy robots and vehicles to complete each stage. The combat relies on a few key moves: a standard punch, a more powerful charged attack that takes a moment to wind up, and the ability to pick up and throw certain objects or defeated foes. The pacing is methodical; you cannot simply rush in, as enemies attack from all sides and your movements feel weighty. It is a difficult game that punishes mistakes, requiring you to learn attack patterns and manage your positioning carefully. Playing it feels like piloting a heavy piece of machinery through a relentless assault.
