Kiki Kaikai: Tsukiyo Soushi came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, published by Taito. It was part of that wave of Japanese action games that felt distinctly of their time, built for the SNES hardware without a lot of the flash that would come later. You don't hear about it as often as some other titles from that year, but it has its own quiet spot in the library.

You control a young shrine maiden named Sayo-chan, moving screen by screen through a world of Japanese folklore. Your main goal is to rescue the seven kidnapped shikigami spirits. You attack with a gohei, a ritual wand you can swing, and you collect power-ups for a secondary weapon like a bow or fire shot. The screen-by-screen progression means each area is a self-contained challenge; you clear all the enemies to move forward. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be sharp, demanding careful movement and quick use of your limited secondary shots. Playing it feels like navigating a series of methodical, sometimes punishing, puzzles where every screen cleared is a small victory.
