Kidoukeisatsu Patlabor came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, published by Bandai. It was part of that wave of Japanese titles that never made it overseas, so you had to either import it or find a fan translation later. The game is based on the mecha anime of the same name, putting you in the cockpit of a Labor, a large construction or police robot.

You control a pilot from a top-down perspective, navigating through maze-like urban environments. Your main goal is to complete missions, which usually involve searching for clues, defusing bombs, or stopping criminal Labors. The gameplay is split between exploring the city on foot to talk to people and gather information, and then engaging in combat once you find your target. The combat is action-oriented; you maneuver your Labor, lock on to enemies, and fire your weapon, but you have to manage your energy and weapon systems carefully. The pacing is deliberate, with a lot of backtracking and trial and error as you figure out where to go next, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you rush in. Playing it feels like being a mechanic as much as a police officer, constantly checking your systems while hunting for suspects in a crowded city.
