About Ken Griffey Jr.s Winning Run
Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run came out for the Super Nintendo in 1996, developed by Rare. It arrived late in the SNES lifecycle, a time when developers were really pushing what the hardware could do with sports games. This one stood out because it had the official MLB license and Griffey's name on it, which was a pretty big deal for a baseball game back then.
You control the entire baseball team, pitching, batting, and fielding. The main goal is to win games, of course, moving through a season or jumping into a single match. A couple of its signature mechanics were the fielding system, where you had to manually run your player to the ball and a cursor would appear for the catch, and the pitching interface that gave you different pitch types and locations to choose from. The game had a faster pace than some other baseball titles, and the difficulty felt fair, challenging you to time your swings and position your fielders correctly. It feels responsive and satisfying when you connect with a pitch and send it sailing over the outfield wall.
