Kakinoki Shougi is one of those deep, traditional Japanese shogi (chess) games for the Super Famicom—no frills, just solid strategy. The board looks clean, pieces move smoothly, and there’s even a handy undo button when you realize you just blundered your gold general. Not that I’d know anything about that.
It’s got a few difficulty settings, but even the AI on "normal" will wreck you if you’re not paying attention. The music’s this weirdly calming synth loop that somehow makes losing feel less painful. If you’ve ever wanted to learn shogi without digging through rulebooks, this is a surprisingly decent way to start.
Just don’t expect flashy animations or tutorials—it’s pure, old-school board game vibes.
