About Kagakusha Harley No Haran Banjou (japan)
Kagakusha Harley no Haran Banjou is a Japan only Super Nintendo release from 1993, developed by SAS Sakata and published by Axes Art Amuse. It arrived in the middle of the SNES library's life, a time when developers were experimenting with action adventure formats beyond the typical platformer.
You control Harley, a scientist exploring a large, interconnected castle. Your main goal is to rescue a princess by navigating the castle's many rooms and defeating the monsters inside. The game progresses screen by screen; you clear enemies from one area before moving to the next. You use a sword for close combat and can find secondary weapons, like a bow, to attack from a distance. The pacing is deliberate, as you methodically search for keys and new equipment to access previously locked sections. It feels like a methodical, room by room conquest of a hostile environment.
