Jurassic War is a real-time strategy game released in 1997 for MS-DOS. Developed by Tranquil Revolt in Computer and published by CDV Software GmbH, it presents a top-down perspective on a prehistoric conflict. The game falls within the real-time strategy genre, where players manage tribes and units in a setting populated by dinosaurs and other ancient creatures.

Players begin by selecting one of several available tribes. Each tribe is composed of basic units, referred to as simple men, who are capable of evolving, and each faction offers slight variations in its most advanced unit types, such as magicians. The primary objective is to eliminate all opposing forces and remove their presence from the map, a common goal for games in this genre. Progression is managed through an experience system where units gain experience by defeating opponents or hunting animals for food, the game's sole resource. When a unit is selected, six individual attribute bars for statistics like velocity, light radius, and magic power are displayed, and players can choose to focus experience gains on specific attributes at the expense of others.

These six attributes are combined into a single colored bar above each unit, representing its overall strength, with white indicating the highest possible level. Powerful creatures, such as Tyrannosaurus-like dinosaurs, often possess this white bar. Both player units and wild animals can earn experience, though animals only gain it when player units die in combat with them, as animals do not initiate attacks. Advancing units to the highest strength levels requires extensive combat training against high-level monsters throughout the game.
