About Judge Dredd (sample)
I picked up Judge Dredd for the Super Nintendo back in 1995, a game published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins on the SNES, trying to capture the look of the comic and the film. You see a lot of these licensed games from that period, and they always had a certain feel to them.
You control Judge Dredd himself, moving through levels from a side view. Your main job is to clean up the streets of Mega-City One, which means shooting a lot of criminals. The gameplay is straightforward; you walk from left to right, clearing each screen of enemies before moving on. You have a standard pistol, but you can pick up different weapon power-ups like a grenade launcher or a spread gun for more firepower. The levels are linear and the action is constant, with a difficulty that gets pretty tough as you go, demanding quick reflexes. It feels like a solid, no-nonsense run and gun experience from that era.
