About John Madden Football '93 (rev A)
John Madden Football '93 (Rev A) came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, published by Electronic Arts. It was part of that wave of early 90s sports games that tried to bring a more authentic simulation to the console, building on what the series started on older systems.
You control the entire football team, calling plays from a large playbook and then executing them on the field. The main objective is to outscore your opponent by moving the ball downfield, either through running plays or passing. A couple of its signature mechanics are the detailed play selection screen, where you pick formations and specific routes, and the ability to control the quarterback directly after the snap to find an open receiver. The game has a deliberate pace, especially compared to later arcade-style football games, and the difficulty comes from reading the defense and making quick decisions. It feels like you are genuinely managing a team's strategy play by play.
