Joe & Mac: Tatakae Genshijin came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, published by Data East. It was part of that early wave of SNES games where developers were figuring out what the system could do, and it stood out with its cartoonish caveman theme. You don't see many games where the main characters are prehistoric, so it had a unique look among the platformers of the time.

You control either Joe or Mac, two cavemen on a mission to rescue their kidnapped cavewomen. The game plays as a side-scrolling action platformer where you move screen by screen, fighting dinosaurs and other primitive enemies. Your main weapons are bones and boomerangs that you can throw, and you can also find temporary power-ups like a wheel or fire attack. The levels are linear but filled with pits and enemies that require careful jumps and quick attacks. It can be quite difficult, with some cheap enemy placements that will knock you into bottomless pits. Playing it feels like a frantic scramble through a dangerous, prehistoric world where you are always just one mistake away from losing a life.
