About Jimmy Connors Pro Tennis Tour (japan)
I picked up Jimmy Connors Pro Tennis Tour for the Super Nintendo back in 1992. It was developed by NMS Software, and it was one of the early tennis games to hit the SNES. At the time, sports games were starting to find their footing on the console, and this one aimed to bring a realistic tennis simulation to the living room.
You control a professional tennis player, competing in tournaments across various court surfaces like grass and clay. The main goal is to win matches and climb the ranks. The gameplay focuses on timing your shots; you hold a button to charge your swing and release it to hit the ball with varying power and spin. Positioning is crucial, as you manually run your player around the court to intercept the ball. The difficulty can be steep, especially against later opponents who rarely make unforced errors. It feels satisfying to nail a perfectly timed passing shot down the line after a long rally.
