Jikkyou Keiba Simulation - Stable Star is one of those SNES deep cuts that somehow makes horse racing feel intense. You start off with a small stable, a couple of untested horses, and way too many decisions—do you push training hard early or play the long game? I remember my first race, some no-name horse I barely trained somehow pulled ahead in the final stretch, and I was yelling at my CRT like it was the real thing.
The breeding system’s surprisingly deep for a 16-bit game, too. You’ll spend way too much time cross-referencing bloodlines, hoping for that perfect foal. And when you finally get a horse that dominates the G1 races? Pure serotonin. Just don’t get too attached—retirement comes fast, and then it’s back to the grind.
It’s janky in that classic SNES sim way, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about the rhythm of it all. You’ll either bounce off hard or lose a weekend to it.
