Okay, so Jetsons: Invasion of the Planet Pirates is this weird little SNES game that feels like it got lost in translation—literally. It was originally a Japanese game called Yōkai Buster: Ruka no Daibōken, but someone slapped the Jetsons on it for the Western release. The result? A bizarre mix of futuristic cartoon family and side-scrolling action that doesn’t quite know what it wants to be.
You play as George Jetson (or his kid, Elroy, in two-player mode), running and gunning through levels with a blaster that feels way too serious for the source material. The graphics are bright and cartoony, but the gameplay’s oddly stiff—like they couldn’t decide if this should be a kid-friendly platformer or a clunky shooter. And don’t get me started on the power-ups; half of them seem pointless until you realize the later enemies are total bullet sponges.
It’s one of those games where you can tell the license was an afterthought. Fun for a nostalgia trip, but don’t expect it to hold up like the classics. The soundtrack’s kinda catchy, though.
