J.r.r. Tolkien's The Lord Of The Rings - Volume One (germany) Game
📅 1994 ✍️ Interplay Entertainment

This SNES adaptation of The Lord of the Rings is… well, let’s just say it’s an interesting take. You start as Frodo in the Shire, but don’t expect the lush green hills from the books—everything’s got that weird early ‘90s pixelated vibe, and the controls feel a bit stiff at first. Combat’s simple (swing your sword, hope for the best), but the real charm is in the overworld exploration. The music’s surprisingly moody for an SNES game, especially when you hit the darker areas.
Fun fact: This version’s based on the German radio play, not the books directly, so some story beats might throw you off if you’re a Tolkien purist. Also, good luck figuring out where to go next without a guide—those old-school cryptic hints are brutal. Still, there’s something oddly satisfying about pixelated Nazgûl chasing you through blocky forests.
Definitely more of a curiosity than a must-play, but worth booting up if you’re into obscure LOTR stuff.
