Okay, so Izzy's Quest for the Olympic Rings is one of those weird, charming SNES platformers that feels like it fell out of a time capsule. You play as Izzy—the blue, spiky 1996 Olympics mascot—jumping through levels to recover the stolen Olympic rings. Yeah, it’s as random as it sounds.
The first thing you’ll notice? The colors. Everything’s bright, almost aggressively cheerful, like a Saturday morning cartoon cranked up to 11. The music’s got that bouncy 16-bit energy too, though some tracks loop a little too fast. Controls are… fine. Not as tight as Mario, but you get used to the slightly floaty jumps after a level or two.
Some levels throw curveballs—underwater sections where Izzy swims like he’s fighting a current, or weird minigames where you dodge obstacles on a skateboard. It’s janky in places, but there’s something endearing about how hard it tries to be more than just another mascot platformer. If you’re into obscure 90s nostalgia, this one’s a trip.
