About Itchy & Scratchy Game, The (europe)
I remember picking up The Itchy & Scratchy Game for the Super Nintendo back in 1995. It was published by Acclaim Entertainment, a company that put out a lot of licensed games for the system during that era. This one was based on the violent cartoon within The Simpsons, which felt like a natural fit for a side-scrolling action game on the SNES.
You control Itchy, and your only goal is to destroy Scratchy. You move through single-screen levels, using whatever weapon you can grab from a randomly changing crate; you might get a mallet, a sword, or a flamethrower. The challenge comes from avoiding Scratchy's own attacks, along with hazards and tiny Scratchy dolls that swarm you. He can take a lot more punishment than you can, so the game becomes a frantic scramble to hit him repeatedly while dodging everything. It feels chaotic and surprisingly difficult, a straightforward brawler that demands quick reflexes and a lot of patience.
