Iron Commando came out in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by the French studio Poppo. It was part of that later wave of SNES games, the kind that showed up when the 16-bit era was really hitting its stride, but before the next generation fully took over. You could find a lot of different genres then, and this one landed squarely in the action category.

You control one of two commandos, Matt or James, fighting through enemy forces. Your goal is to stop a terrorist organization from using a stolen nuclear weapon. The game plays out screen by screen; you clear all the enemies in one area before you can move to the next. You have a standard attack, but the signature mechanics are the special moves and the ability to pick up and throw enemies or objects. You can also find different weapons, like a flamethrower or a bow, to use temporarily. The pacing is fairly quick, though the difficulty can spike with some tricky enemy placements and platforming sections. Playing it feels like a straightforward, sometimes challenging brawl where timing your throws and managing your special meter are the keys to getting through.
