Iron Commando on SNES is one of those hidden gem beat 'em ups that somehow slipped under the radar back in the day. You pick between two fighters—a martial artist or this huge wrestler dude—and just start wrecking street thugs with combos that feel surprisingly smooth for a 16-bit brawler.
The first thing you'll notice is how weighty the punches feel, especially when you land a spinning kick that sends three guys flying. There's something satisfying about the way enemies ragdoll after a good combo. And the bosses? Absolute units—one minute you're fighting some cyborg ninja on a rooftop, next thing you know you're dodging flamethrowers in an underground base.
What I love is how it mixes up the usual sidewalk brawling with occasional vehicle sections (yes, you get to suplex people from a motorcycle). The soundtrack's got this crunchy synth-rock thing going that somehow makes kicking gang members through store windows even more fun. Just don't expect it to go easy on you—this one's got that classic arcade difficulty where enemies love to cheap-shot you from off-screen.
If you miss that era when beat 'em ups were all about dumb fun and over-the-top action, this one's still worth firing up.
