About Illusion Of Gaia (beta)
Illusion of Gaia came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Quintet. It was part of that wave of action RPGs on the system that tried to blend exploration with a more involved story. You don't see many games from that era tackling themes about ancient civilizations and environmental decay in quite the same way.
You control a boy named Will, traveling across the world to prevent a comet from causing a catastrophe. The game plays out screen by screen, with you navigating towns, ruins, and dungeons. You use a short-range weapon for combat, and Will eventually gains psychic powers that let him transform into other beings with different abilities, which is essential for solving puzzles and accessing new areas. The pacing is deliberate, with a focus on uncovering the story through NPC interactions and item collection. It's a journey that feels somber and thoughtful, even during its more straightforward action sequences.
