Honoo No Doukyuuji is one of those weird, hyper-Japanese SNES sports games that somehow makes dodgeball feel like an anime battle. You pick from a roster of kids straight out of a 90s manga—each with their own ridiculous special throws—and then proceed to bean opponents in the face at Mach 3. The physics are completely bonkers; balls curve mid-air like they’ve got a mind of their own, and if you time it right, you can pull off these absurd super shots that send the other team flying. It’s got that classic SunSoft jank where everything feels slightly off but in a way that’s weirdly charming. Definitely not a sim, more like if someone turned dodgeball into a fighting game. The sprite work’s actually pretty great, too—lots of exaggerated reactions when someone gets nailed. If you’re into obscure sports games with personality, this one’s a hidden gem.
