Hong Kong 97 is... well, it's something else. This SNES "cult classic" (and I use that term loosely) throws you into a bizarre, janky shooter where you mow down waves of enemies in pixelated Hong Kong. The graphics look like they were made in MS Paint by someone who'd never seen a human before, and the soundtrack is just a single Chinese pop song on loop. It's awful. But in that special way where you can't look away.
You'll spend most of your time shooting at what I think are supposed to be gangsters while dodging random obstacles—some levels feel like they were designed by throwing darts at a board. The controls are stiff, the hit detection is questionable, and the whole thing has this weird, fever-dream energy. It's the kind of game you play at 2 AM with friends just to see how bad it gets.
Honestly, calling it a "must-play" is a stretch, but if you're into so-bad-it's-good retro oddities, this one's a trip. Just don't expect anything resembling polished gameplay. The chaos is the whole point.
