About Home Alone (japan)
Home Alone on the Super Nintendo came out in 1991, developed by Imagineering Inc. It was one of many licensed games from that period, a straightforward platformer trying to capture the movie's premise. You don't get a cinematic retelling; you get the basic setup and then you're thrown into the action.
You control Kevin McCallister, and your goal is to survive until your family returns while two burglars, Harry and Marv, try to catch you. The house is a series of connected rooms you explore screen by screen. You set traps using toys and household items you find, like a Micro Machines car you can place on the floor to make the burglars slip. You also collect coins and other valuables scattered around to increase your score. The pacing is frantic because the burglars are always searching for you, and getting caught means you lose a life quickly. It feels like a tense game of cat and mouse where your only real advantage is being slightly faster and knowing the layout of the house.
