Holy Umbrella - Dondera's Wild is one of those weird, wonderful SNES games that somehow slipped under the radar. You play as Dondera, this little guy with a magic umbrella that does... well, pretty much everything. It blocks attacks, whacks enemies, and even lets you float down like some kind of pastel-colored Mary Poppins.
The first thing you'll notice is how alive the world feels—every screen's packed with these tiny animated details, like frogs hopping in the background or villagers doing their weird little dances. Combat's simple but satisfying, especially when you figure out the timing for umbrella counters. And yeah, the enemies are ridiculous in the best way—imagine fighting sentient rainclouds one minute and possessed scarecrows the next.
What really stuck with me was the humor. There's this one NPC who just complains about his back pain for three dialogue boxes straight. Classic 90s weirdness. If you dig quirky action-platformers with a splash of RPG flavor, this one's worth dusting off your SNES for.
