About Hit The Ice
Hit the Ice came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, published by Taito. It was part of that wave of early 90s arcade sports games that tried to capture the fast action of the coin-op cabinets at home. On the SNES, it fit right in with other quick, competitive games you could pick up and play with a friend.
You control a hockey player, skating around a top-down rink. The main goal is simple: score more goals than the opposing team. Your main actions are passing the puck, body checking opponents to steal the puck, and taking shots on goal. A signature move is the slap shot, which you charge up for a more powerful, faster shot. The game moves at a breakneck pace, with the computer opponents providing a decent challenge that keeps you on your toes. It feels chaotic and immediate, like a shoving match on skates with a puck involved.
