Hiryuu No Ken S - Hyper Version is one of those classic SNES fighters from Culture Brain that flew under the radar outside Japan. You play as Ryuhi, a martial artist trying to stop the resurrected warlord Dargon—who, naturally, wants to wreck you and your crew. The story mode’s got that old-school tournament arc vibe where you fight your way up the ranks, but the real threat’s always lurking in the background.

What’s cool is the mix of modes—you can jump straight into VS battles if you just want to throw down with a friend, or grind through the story to unlock everything. The roster’s small but each fighter feels distinct, and the pixel art holds up surprisingly well. Some of the moves take a second to get used to, but once you nail the timing, the combat’s satisfying in that slightly janky 90s way.

It’s not Street Fighter, but if you’re into obscure fighting games with personality, this one’s a solid deep cut.
