Hiryuu No Ken S - Golden Fighter (or Ultimate Fighter in the US) is one of those SNES beat 'em ups that starts with a classic setup: demons steal a sacred scroll and sword, and now it's up to Rick (your guy) to punch his way through waves of enemies to get them back. The story mode plays like a side-scroller—you’re running through levels smacking around Tusk Soldiers, grabbing miracle water to heal, and occasionally facing off against bosses in one-on-one fights.
What’s cool is the variety—there’s a VS. mode where up to eight players can duke it out tournament-style, and you’ve got twelve fighters to pick from, each with their own fighting style. The battle mode lets you take on bosses whenever you want, and then there’s this weird but fun animation mode where boss fights turn into turn-based RPG battles (like Final Fantasy, but with more flying kicks).
Difficulty’s all over the place, which is nice—whether you’re just button-mashing or trying to master combos, there’s a setting that won’t completely wreck you. It’s got that early SNES charm where everything’s a little janky but still weirdly fun. If you’re into retro fighters with some oddball twists, this one’s worth a look.
