About Harvest Moon
I first played Harvest Moon on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1996. It was developed by Pack-In-Video and felt different from most other games on the platform at the time, which were often about action or fantasy adventures. This one was quieter, focused on a different kind of life.
You control a young man who inherits a neglected farm. Your main goal is to restore it to prosperity over the course of several in-game years. The core mechanics involve clearing land, planting and watering crops each day, and raising animals like cows and chickens. You also explore the nearby town screen by screen to meet other characters, sometimes giving them gifts to build relationships. The pacing is deliberate, tied to a day/night and seasonal cycle that forces you to plan your activities carefully. It feels like building a life from the ground up, one small task at a time.
