Hardball III on SNES is one of those old-school baseball games that somehow nails the feel of the sport without overcomplicating things. You pick your team—I always went with the fictional ones because their stats were wild—and jump right into a game where the pitching actually takes some timing to master. The fielding can be a little janky at first, but once you get used to it, diving for line drives feels oddly satisfying.
It’s got that classic 16-bit charm, with players who look like they’re made of pixels but still manage to pull off smooth slides into base. The crowd noise is hilariously repetitive, but in a way that makes it weirdly endearing. If you’ve ever wanted a no-frills baseball game where you can just swing for the fences without a million menus, this one’s a solid pick.
