HAL's Hole in One Golf is one of those weird little SNES gems that doesn’t play like anything else. Instead of the usual side-scrolling or 3D golf games, you’re looking straight down at the course—like some kind of golfing god peering at a tiny green diorama. It takes a second to adjust, but once you do, there’s something oddly satisfying about watching your ball roll along those pixel-perfect fairways.
You’ve got wind, slopes, and hazards to deal with, but the real trick is judging distance when everything’s flattened into this top-down view. I whiffed my first few shots before realizing how much the terrain actually matters. And the music? Weirdly chill for a golf game, like you’re putting through a dreamy synthwave album cover.
It’s not the deepest golf sim out there, but it’s got this weird charm that makes you want to play just one more hole.
