Okay, so Gourmet Sentai - Bara Yarou is one of those weirdly brilliant SNES games that makes you go, "Wait, why hasn’t anyone else done this?" It’s basically a cooking-themed Super Sentai RPG where your team of food-obsessed heroes fights evil with spatulas, rolling pins, and the occasional flaming wok.
The first time I played, I spent way too long just staring at the character select screen—do I go with the sushi chef who throws wasabi bombs, or the ramen master with his noodle whip? (Pro tip: the tempura knight is secretly OP.) The battles are this hilarious mix of turn-based strategy and cooking minigames where you’re frantically chopping veggies mid-fight to power up your special attacks.
And the pixel art? Gorgeous. Every enemy is some ridiculous food monster, like a sentient gyoza dumpling or a giant angry radish. Half the fun is just seeing what absurd dish they’ll throw at you next. It’s cheesy, chaotic, and weirdly satisfying when you finally nail that perfect combo to roast the final boss with a well-timed soufflé explosion.
If you’re into obscure 90s Japanese oddities, this one’s a feast.
