Gouketsuji Ichizoku came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, published by Atlus. It was part of that wave of fighting games on the system, a time when every developer seemed to be trying their hand at the genre. This one stood out for its cast and its particular style, a different flavor from the more common Street Fighter clones.

You control one of twelve characters from the Ichizoku clan, each with their own special moves and fighting style. The main goal is to win a series of one-on-one matches in a tournament to become the clan's successor. The combat is built around a three-button system for punches, kicks, and a unique "desperation" move that can turn the tide of a fight. A signature mechanic is the ability to perform team-up attacks with your partner character, calling them in for a quick assist. The pacing is fast, and the computer opponents can be quite challenging, demanding that you learn the timing for throws and counters. Playing it feels like a quick, scrappy brawl where a single well-timed move can decide the whole match.
